Livestock path worn in to the "brain" rock at White Pocket showing the path of least resistance to and from the watering hole there, makes for a nice lead out to the play between blue sky under dark clouds that made the light so interesting that afternoon.

Morning Glory

Currently considered to be the 7th largest natural span in the world.  Morning Glory Bridge is an impressive arch.  A challenge to photograph and get it all in.  For scale note the person descending on a rappel line just below the blue sky showing through the arch.

Explore, Portals To Sky

Flickr's Explore that is...my first photo to be on Explore (if that is the vernacular).
I'm still not sure when I'll get through all those photos from that trip, however last week I processed  this photo, another I took at The Wave last year, and posted it to my Flickr account.  Sunday it was selected, not sure how that works but a fair sized audience follows the Explore feature it seems.  Over 15,000 views?  Had me doing a double take to make sure I read the number properly.

The Book Cliffs Again

Signaling yet another great trip to Southern Utah drawing to a close with some interesting light and clouds.  A nice way to cap three and a half days of arduous backpacking hiking and exploring in Grand Gulch, each of which proceeded by a beautiful night sleeping out under the stars, and followed by a lonely bike ride, my first of the season, to retrieve our transportation from our starting point. All in all it was difficult but vastly enjoyable.

I wasn't initially encouraged by the results and lighting at the time but the other night while browsing through the folder from that trip to the Wave last year and wondering when I ever might get caught up on those photos I thought I'd give this one a try after all.  I seem to recall feeling a little too intimate with a lot of ants during the making of this image.

I've been busy looking for a new photo host for older albums, fixing the photos on trip reports on varius forums, having my first set of prints made, and concentrating on my collection of wildflower photos. Time for a break. Another favorite from a trip last October.

The last of a handful of attempts I made at a more scenic bokeh panorama or Brenizer method last weekend.   For this one shot 30 images at 50mm f2.8, stitched using Hugin.  This often photographed ruin in Beef Basin was my willing subject.  My other attempts last weekend all include a group of moving people but will have to see how they turn out.

October Trip 2012 Pt 1

Taking up to a week off  to go exploring around Southern Utah and beyond has been an annual fall tradition of mine since around 2002.   Just got back and this years trip was another great one.

Not since my Pentax Zx5n would still eat film have I been out to look for Fall colors.  Finally spent a short evening after work to at least see what I might find before yet another season was over.
