Flickr's Explore that is...my first photo to be on Explore (if that is the vernacular).
I'm still not sure when I'll get through all those photos from that trip, however last week I processed this photo, another I took at The Wave last year, and posted it to my Flickr account. Sunday it was selected, not sure how that works but a fair sized audience follows the Explore feature it seems. Over 15,000 views? Had me doing a double take to make sure I read the number properly.
My brief distraction from unexpected and mercilessly unending auto repair.

Signaling yet another great trip to Southern Utah drawing to a close with some interesting light and clouds. A nice way to cap three and a half days of arduous backpacking hiking and exploring in Grand Gulch, each of which proceeded by a beautiful night sleeping out under the stars, and followed by a lonely bike ride, my first of the season, to retrieve our transportation from our starting point. All in all it was difficult but vastly enjoyable.

There simply is no better term. Sure the "Rock" part is easy enough and the only thing that really applies which leaves "Art" but was it created for arts sake as they say? Doubtful that it was considering what science might tell us of, from archaic to just prehistoric times, those standards of living in such a harsh environment that have been gleaned from the remains of the past. "Rock Graphics" has been suggested instead, but admitted to be another place holder for that unknown better term for certainly if the purpose was higher the term graphics falls short. "Indian Writing" frequents older reports and stories. This at least eludes to some form of communication or relation of meaning for more certainly some sort of higher purpose might have allowed for it's creation, perhaps by those important enough in society to be provided for while doing so, considering eras when day to day survival would have been so consuming of ones time and energies. But without anyone left from the creating culture to verify what if anything is being communicated we are left only with the extremely limited scientific facts and an unlimited supply of inference and compound inference. So accepting the most common lack of a better word, here is some of the finest rock art I've been privileged to visit and photograph. They call this one perfect.

I wasn't initially encouraged by the results and lighting at the time but the other night while browsing through the folder from that trip to the Wave last year and wondering when I ever might get caught up on those photos I thought I'd give this one a try after all. I seem to recall feeling a little too intimate with a lot of ants during the making of this image.

I've been busy looking for a new photo host for older albums, fixing the photos on trip reports on varius forums, having my first set of prints made, and concentrating on my collection of wildflower photos. Time for a break. Another favorite from a trip last October.
